कोविंद देश के १४वें राष्ट्रपति बने, मुख्य न्यायाधीश ने आज २५ जुलाई २०१७ को शपथ दिलाई। संसद के सेंट्रल हॉल में कोविंद को मुख्य न्यायाधीश खेहर ने राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ दिलाई। शपथ ग्रहण करने के बाद राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने कहा कि हमारे देश में न्याय, स्वतंत्रता, समानता और बंधुत्व का पालन किया जाता रहा है, मैं भी इसका पालन करता रहूंगा।
कोविंद जी ने कहा मैं डॉ राजेंद्र प्रसाद, डॉ एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम और प्रणब दा के कदमों पर चलने जा रहा हूं। इस दौरान रामनाथ कोविंद ने आजादी की लड़ाई का उल्लेख करते हुए महात्मा गांधी को भी याद किया। राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने कहा कि हमारे देश की विविधता ही हमारी पहचान है।

उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि हमें भारत की संस्कृति, परंपरा और देश के नागरिकों पर गर्व है। उन्होंने कहा कि देश का प्रत्येक नागरिक राष्ट्र का निर्माता और मूल्यों का संरक्षक है। हमारे देश के सुरक्षा बल भी राष्ट्र निर्माता हैं, जो हमारी सुरक्षा करते हैं। किसान पूरे देश का पेट भर रहे हैं, वो भी राष्ट्र निर्माता हैं।
राष्ट्रपति ने डॉक्टरों, व्यवसाइयों को भी राष्ट्रनिर्माता कहा। उन्होंने कहा कि देश का प्रत्येक नागरिक राष्ट्रनिर्माता है। मुखर्जी और कोविंद राष्ट्रपति भवन से संसद बग्घी की जगह कार से पहुंचे। उपराष्ट्रपति हामिद अंसारी, स्पीकर सुमित्रा महाजन और चीफ जस्टिस खेहर भी काफिले का हिस्सा रहे।

शपथ ग्रहण समारोह से पहले रामनाथ कोविंद ने प्रणब मुखर्जी से मुलाकात की। इससे पहले, राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ लेने से पहले रामनाथ कोविंद राजघाट पहुंचे थे, जहां उन्होंने महात्मा गांधी को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की।
भाषण के बाद कोविंद, मुखर्जी के साथ उनके आवास १० राजाजी मार्ग पहुंचेंगे, जहां तीनों सेनाओं के दस्ते कोविंद को लेने जाएंगे। सेना कोविंद को राष्ट्रपति भवन तक लाएगी जहां उन्हें गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर दिया जायेगा।
आपको बता दें कि कोविंद को चीफ जस्टिस खेहर शपथ दिलाएंगे, जिसके बाद वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रणव मुखर्जी और कोविंद अपनी कुर्सी बदलेंगे।
