टी-18 देश की पहली इंजन रहित ट्रेन है। इस ट्रेन को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी 29 दिसंबर को झंडी दिखाएंगे। अमर उजाला के मुताबिक प्रधानमंत्री मोदी इसे अपने संसदीय क्षेत्र वाराणसी से हरी झंडी दिखा सकते हैं। यह ट्रेन दिल्ली व वाराणसी के बीच चलेगी। इसके साथ ही शताब्दी ट्रेनों की जगह इसे चलाया जाएगा।
आईसीएफ चेन्नई द्वारा 100 करोड़ की लागत से बनी टी-18 देश की सबसे तेज चलने वाली ट्रेन है। हाल ही में दिल्ली राजधानी रूट पर ट्रायल के दौरान यह 180 किमी प्रति घंटे की स्पीड से दौड़ने में सफल रही। संभावित योजना के तहत ट्रेन नई दिल्ली से सुबह 6 बजे चलेगी और दोपहर 2 बजे तक वाराणसी पहुंच जाएगी।
वहीं दोपहर में 2:30 बजे वाराणसी से चलकर रात 10:30 नई दिल्ली पहुंचेगी। इस ट्रेन में दो विशेष डिब्बे होंगे जिसमें 52-52 सीटें होंगी और शेष डिब्बों में 78-78 सीटें होंगी। ट्रायल के दौरान ट्रेन18 की सफलता से प्रभावित रेल मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने हाल ही में आईसीएफ से वर्तमान वित्तीय वर्ष में ऐसी चार और ट्रेनें बनाने को कहा है। वर्ष 2018 में बनने के कारण इसे टी-18 नाम दिया गया है।
भारतीय रेलवे का यह पहला ऐसा ट्रेन सेट है, जो मेट्रो की तरह का ही है। इसमें इंजन अलग नहीं है बल्कि ट्रेन के पहले और अंतिम कोच में ही इसके चलाने का बंदोबस्त है। इसके कोच स्टेनलेस स्टील के होने की वजह से हल्के हैं। ट्रेन में कई ऐसे फीचर जोड़े गए हैं, जिनमें वाईफाई, एलईडी लाइट, पैसेंजर इन्फॉर्मेशन सिस्टम आदि भी शामिल है।
