श्रीहरिकोटा में भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) ने मंगलवार को अपने संचार उपग्रह जीसैट-7ए को लांच करने का काउंटडाउन प्रारम्भ कर दिया है। यहां स्थित सतीश धवन स्पेस सेंटर से मंगलवार दोपहर 2 बजकर 10 मिनट पर इसकी उल्टी गिनती प्रारम्भ हो गई। यह बुधवार को शाम 4 बजकर 10 मिनट पर जीएसएलवी-एफ11 रॉकेट को लेकर लांच किया जाएगा।
इसरो द्वारा निर्मित जीसैट-7ए का वजन 2,250 किलोग्राम है और यह मिशन आठ साल का होगा। मंगलवार को इसरो ने कहा कि मिशन रेडिनेस रिव्यू कमेटी और लांच ऑथराइजेशन बोर्ड ने काउंटडाउन शुरू कर दिया है। जीएसएलवी-एफ11 की यह 13वीं उड़ान होगी और सातवीं बार यह स्वदेशी क्रायोनिक इंजन के साथ लांच होगा। यह कू-बैंड में संचार की सुविधा उपलब्ध करवाएगा।
इसे खासकर भारतीय वायुसेना को बेहतर संचार सेवा देने के उद्देश्य से लांच किया जा रहा है। इसरो का यह 39वां संचार उपग्रह होगा।
